How Does Book in a Box Work?

Do you have a book in you?

The first step in working with Book in a Box is do a phone call with an Author Consultant. Together, you will figure out two things:

  1. Do you have a good idea for a book?
  2. Does it make sense for you to work with us?

We don’t work with everyone. We’re only able to take a certain number of new authors a month, and every book we make puts our reputation on the line, so we have to make sure we work on the best possible book ideas.

Furthermore, there are many different ways to create a book, and our process is not right for every author. Our Author Consultants are trained to help you find the best way forward to publish your book, even if it’s not with us.

Turn your book idea into a book outline

The process begins with the outline calls. Over the course of two in-depth conversations, our professional book developers will take all of your ideas and turn them into a tight, professional book outline that lays the foundation for your book to capture your intent and captivate readers. They do this by clarifying your goals, refining your book idea, positioning it correctly in the market, and honing the book’s message until it’s exactly what it needs to be.

Some of our Book Developers

Mark Chait: is the most seasoned book vet on our team. He spent almost 20 years in traditional publishing, first as a Senior Editor at Penguin, then as an Executive Editor at HarperCollins. He’s too modest to admit it, but he’s a big deal in the book world.

Hal Clifford: has been a writer and editor for three decades, publishing three national nonfiction books, editing several major nonfiction books, and writing for publications including The New York Times Magazine, Outside, National Geographic Adventure and The Wall Street Journal.

Write your book through interviews

One of our editors—who range in experience from professional journalists to bestselling authors —will interview you, using the outline as the guide.

Our editors interview you in a way that gets all of your knowledge and wisdom out of your head, while also acting as an “advocate for the reader.” This ensures that you say what you want to say, but in a way that will resonate with your audience, thus ensuring your book is the best possible expression of your ideas.

Interviews translated into book prose

Those recorded interviews will be transcribed, and the same editor will work from the transcript to create a book manuscript. This manuscript will be your ideas and your words, written in your voice.

Then you will read through the manuscript with your editor and identify any changes you want us to make, to ensure it’s exactly what you want to say and the way you want to say it. This book is your ideas and knowledge, in your words and voice.

Your time commitment = 3-4 hours (editing time)

Professionally Published Book

The biggest thing that separates “real” books from those that feel amateur or self-published is the design elements. Our publishing team will make sure your book looks and feels like the best books available for purchase at any bookstore or published by any traditional publisher.

Of course this means a professional cover, and also the smaller elements that are very important, like an ISBN, a professional book description, author bio, etc.; your book will feel completely at home on a bookshelf next to any other book.

Your book will be published by Lioncrest Publishing, and be available for purchase in both paperback and ebook format (and hardcover for the premium package), in all major online retailers.

Your time commitment = 1 hour (reviewing covers)

From Published Author to Bestselling Author

The process doesn’t stop with a published book. We also help you launch and promote your book.

Our marketing campaign includes an Amazon Bestseller promotion that will ensure your book is seen by thousands of people the week it launches, as well as hit #1 in one or more sub-categories.
